This is a special day for Mechanical Orchard.
Fourteen months ago, we set out to apply a rigorous methodology to one of the most complex and anxiety-inducing technology challenges today: legacy modernization. By incorporating reverse engineering, generative AI, and continuous delivery, we’re making one of the most intractable problems facing large enterprises manageable and predictable.
Safe legacy modernization is getting fast
In our first year as a company, we’ve moved multiple workflows into the cloud for our clients using our GenAI-native approach. This is helping them break free of the constraints imposed by legacy systems so they can innovate with confidence.
Mainframes are still the backbone of the world’s most valuable companies: critical business processes run on aging, complex legacy systems. With many mainframe programmers retiring every year, organizations risk losing essential contextual knowledge about these systems. This impedes innovation and competitiveness and poses a substantial operational risk to some of the world’s biggest companies.
Compounding those risks is the rise of Artificial Intelligence. We find ourselves at the cusp of the AI revolution: companies that missed the Open Source revolution now stand at another fork in the road, and this time, missing it could be an existential crisis.
We chose this challenge because it’s hard: failure rates are high—and so is the cost of failure. Over half of legacy modernization efforts don’t achieve their target outcomes. From snarled airline systems to banking fines, companies know they need to achieve a state in which continuous innovation is fluid and easy.
Test and validate
Yesterday, we announced a $24 million Series A round of financing led by Emergence Capital. The funding will help us grow our extraordinary engineering and operational capabilities and reach a broader range of customers who need us. This investment validates our conviction that this is the right problem, the right team, and the right time.
Mechanical Orchard is recalibrating the relationship between stability and agility. Critical systems on the cloud can be robust, resilient, and incredibly adaptable to market needs. Continuous modernization doesn’t have to be disruptive. We’re proving that it isn’t.
